Monday Musings of Pastor Ron - August 30,2026

Friends,

I started my Monday morning the way I often do; by looking at the predictions for this week's weather. I was surprised to see that there is a potential tropical storm forming in the Gulf that could bring some heavy rain to southeast Texas and possibly Houston. It reminded me that we are entering into a time where we need to be prepared for the hurricane season. Hopefully the projected track of the storm and the amount of water it might bring will not bring flooding to Houston or have major impacts on the area.

It also brought me back to yesterday's message. Sometimes we hear God calling us down a particular path that we do not want to take. Part of our inability to recognize the call or hear it in God's terms instead of ours is due to our preparation, or lack thereof. 2 Timothy talks about that preparation: Preach the word: be ready in every season he says. We need to understand God's word in order to hear it the way God intends. That comes through study: either by yourself or in a group. I encourage you to join the Adult Sunday School class if you are not there already. I encourage you to take a Bible study. If you are reading this and are not a part of our congregation or any congregation, I encourage you to find a Bible Study on-line. If not, find a Study Bible and read by yourself.

The author of 2 Timothy explained that a time was coming when people will listen to the voices they want to hear instead of the voice of God. That is what Peter did in our text this week. That is what Moses wanted to do in our text this week. That is what the world wants us to do today. So, take a moment while you are preparing things and make a decision to prepare yourself to hear the voice of God. It speaks to us every day. We just don't always hear it.

If the storm does bring rain to your house, stay dry.

God bless you. See you Sunday
